Quick answer

The Swedish Embassy in Hanoi and the Honorary Consulate in Ho Chi Minh City issue emergency passports (SEK 1,800) and hand over passports issued elsewhere (SEK 200), always by appointment; Hanoi does not issue ordinary passports. The Embassy issues marriage certificates and certifies documents. Since 11 September 2026, Vietnamese documents for Sweden can be apostilled in Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City.

Frequently asked questions

Where do Swedish citizens in Vietnam apply for a passport?
Not at the Embassy in Hanoi, which does not take ordinary passport applications. Apply in Sweden or at a nearby Swedish embassy that issues passports; the passport can be collected in Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City (SEK 200).
Do Swedish citizens need a visa for Vietnam?
Not for stays of up to 45 days: Resolution 44/NQ-CP exempts Swedish citizens from 15 March 2025 to 14 March 2028, for all passport types and purposes. Longer stays need an e-visa or an extension.
